Vilcabamba’s first newspaper, “El Huilco”. For an ecological and sustainable future.
“El Huilco”
- Inform the general public (natives and foreigners, residents and visitors) about local, national and international news, and articles about the environment, health, art and culture in Vilcabamba.
- Promote conscientious habits for a healthy and ecologically developed future for the residents of the Parroquia and its natural habitat.
Note: The publication is created by the young members of the Eco Club of the National High School of Vilcabamba. Only the editorial and letters to the editor may be written by non-affiliated individuals. Printing of the publication is supported by the National University of Loja, in exchange for free space in each edition to publish information for future high school graduates. Material expenses are paid by sponsors (individuals and local businesses) who are allowed to include text after an article in the newspaper, therefore keeping the focus on the intended content and not on business advertising.
The first monthly edition was distributed free. Copies thereafter were sold for $0.20 each at local businesses.
